Description: ISTE NETS Standards address the technological needs of the entire education organization. The standards outline how technology is to be used in the school environment, mandating accountability of Administrators, Teachers, and Students. These standards for technology are embedded in the core curriculum national, state, and local standards for every course of study. The standards are clear and easily understandable, but flexible enough to allow Administrators, Teachers, and Students room for creativity and diversity.
Impact: The ISTE NETS-T and NETS-S standards were easily realized by my work with the students. I have always been the innovative teacher, using technology and empowering my students to use technology as well. At every opportunity, whether researching for information or preparing for presentations and reports, I always had my students learn to incorporate technology in their work. ISTE NETS-TL and NETS-TF standards brought to my attention that I needed to also focus on training teachers more with the use of technology. Seldom is this possible during the school day, at best, I trained teachers as the need arose and often in a crash course format. Teachers are lagging behind students with technology knowledge and usage. Schools are now making a consciences effort to provide Professional Development in the area of technology for teachers and staff.
Intent: As a Technology Facilitator, I will focus my attention on Professional Development training with teachers, using technology to enhance their instruction. I will also guide my teachers through the process of allowing students to use technology for creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding, and remembering, (21st Century Blooms Taxonomy skills) through lessons and activities of instruction.
